This one-day lecture and one-day hands-on workshop are designed to help dentists in dealing with common implant complications, in particular to avoid these complications before they occur. It will provide the basics of treatment planning concepts and the mechanism of bone loss and implant failure (e.g., biological, biomechanical and combination of these two); and how to deal and prevent these problems. The treatment for implant diseases/complications include: chemotherapeutic agents, apically positioned flap with or without implantoplasty, implant surface detoxification, guided bone regeneration, soft tissue grafts, implant removal as well as re-implantation. A decision tree of how to select and manage the peri-implantitis will also be presented.
Hands-on exercise will cover implant surface detoxification, soft tissue graft corrections (free soft tissue graft, subepithelial connective tissue graft, and acellular dermal matrix), apically positioned flap with implantoplasty and osseous surgery, guided bone regeneration as well as remove of failing and failed implants.
